CANNABIS LAWS FACE BIG HURDLE

To the editor:

I believe that the prohibitive laws against the cultivation and/or use of
marijuana are not only based upon dubious legal justifications, but they
are also hypocritical, counter-productive and fraudulent.

Although Peter and Terry March (Ask a Philosopher, The Daily News, June 28)
describe accurately the political realities and difficulties faced in order
to reverse such bad laws, they have not addressed the chief causes and
authoritarian forces that maintain it.

The chief political powers that prevent Canadian marijuana laws from
changing are the United States government and its puritanical policies of
drug interdiction and our sycophant RCMP, who eagerly play along with the
fascist bullies of the American DEA.
