Pubdate: Mon, 06 Jan 1997 Source: San Francisco Examiner (CA) Author: Dennis Peron We and others were very disappointed in the response of the California Medical Association's president-elect, Dr. Roland C. Lowe, to the federal government's threats to strip doctors of their license to prescribe medicine (AIDs doctors assail pot policy, Jan. 1). I thought CMA was there to protect the public and its doctors. When the first physician goes to jail for recommending the compassionate use of marijuana, Lowe's mean-spiritedness will come back to haunt him. His contempt for the voters matches the contempt shown by the loser politicians. If Lowe is really concerned about children and drugs, why doesn't he speak out on the drugs that are killing our children, like alcohol and cigarettes?
