MARRIAGE OF CSO AND LEGAL POT

Re: "Cannabis, symphony in concert for series," April 29 news story.

For some of us who have invested significant time and energy in
developing an understanding of and appreciation for Western classical
music, the marriage of mind-altering substances and such art needs no
reconciliation. There are famous examples of notable composers
employing psychotropics, whether it be 19th century French masters
and their opium or mid-20th century maestros exploring psychedelics
and, yes, cannabis, for inspiration.

The Colorado Symphony Orchestra's directorship is correct in
assessing the dire state of classical music in America: a younger
audience needs to be cultivated. Whatever one's personal feelings on
the matter, an overlap of orchestral culture and that of safe,
responsible recreational marijuana use can only improve the future
prospects of the art.

One of the grandest experiences one can have just might be partaking
of our fair state's latest recreational opportunity and immersing
oneself in Bach's "Mass in B minor," an enchanting Stravinsky ballet,
or a monumental Mahler symphony. CSO at Red Rocks in September? I'll
see you there.
