.. BUT THERE'S A SILVER LINING

Re: "No more trips through Colorado," April 25 letter to the editor.

It was dismaying to read the letter from the Nebraskan informing us
she would no longer be driving through Colorado on her future road
trips, out of concern she may be hit by a high driver. She prefers to
drive through Wyoming or the "southern route" instead.

A quick look at drunken-driving fatality statistics (deaths per
capita) shows Wyoming at almost three times Colorado's rate. New
Mexico is double. Even her state of Nebraska is over 50 percent
higher. She should really just stay home, for her own safety.

Here is a prime example of unintended consequences of our new
legalization effort. Soon good folks from Texas, Kansas and other
states will follow suit and not stream into our state in the droves we
so look forward to. Soon Coloradans will be left all by ourselves in
our state. And if this keeps up, we may never get the Olympics!
