Author: Richard Tobias Bookmark: http://www.mapinc.org/meth.htm (Methamphetamine) THE NATIONAL METH PROBLEM Re "Killing suspect arrested in spree," March 29: Almost daily we read of violent and senseless acts perpetrated by berserk meth users. The recent Elk Grove drive-by shooting is an uncomfortably typical example of this pernicious crime wave. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Every county in the United States now has a meth problem and resultant crime wave of violence and robbery. Osama bin Laden in his wildest dreams could not visit such destruction upon the United States. Yet our government continues to spend the majority of "drug war" resources fighting marijuana, especially in states where majorities of voters have enacted medical marijuana laws. We have the right to be free of methamphetamine terrorism on our own streets, and I, for one, am outraged that the methamphetamine menace has not been declared a top priority in domestic policy by our leaders in Washington. - - Richard Tobias West Sacramento - --- MAP posted-by: Beth Wehrman
