FLU CRISIS SHOWS BUSH HYPOCRISY

The hypocrisy of the Bush administration is utterly boundless.

Just weeks ago, President Bush and other officials were saying that drugs
from Canada may not be safe. Now, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) is looking into fast-tracking approval of Canadian flu vaccine doses
("Extra shots to come at flu's peak," News, Wednesday).

The administration had trusted another firm abroad, British drugmaker
Chiron, to produce half of our flu vaccine. Now, millions of Americans are
facing the flu season without vaccine.

Bush has no effective health care plan. And the same FDA that refuses to
take an honest look at the benefits of medical marijuana approves such
drugs as Vioxx, Baycol and Rezulin, which have put Americans at risk.

Homeland security begins at home, including obtaining enough flu vaccine
doses to protect every American that wants that protection. The failure of
health care policy is just one subset of the failures of the Bush
administration. Our nation can't handle four more years of Bush's screwups.
John Kerry is my choice this Nov. 2.
