UNREGULATED DRUGS ARE DRUG PROBLEM

Kudos to Chris Powell for his outstanding letter: "Let's end this
insane drug war" (July 23).

I'd like to add that almost all the problems we have with illegal
drugs are because certain (politically selected) drugs are illegal.

Because certain drugs are illegal, they are of unknown purity, unknown
potency and unknown quality -- just like alcohol was when it was illegal.

And just like alcohol was when it was illegal, recreational drugs are
untaxed, unregulated and controlled by criminal gangs.

Drugs don't cause crime -- drug prohibition causes most of our
crime.
