POT LETTER REALLY LAMPOONED GOP'S RELIGIOUS RIGHT

I am left wondering what possible purpose was served by printing the recent
rant from Robert Cooper. Mr. Cooper was incensed over a previous letter
from Stan White.

I went back and reread Mr. White's letter thinking surely I must have
missed something that had gotten Mr. Cooper stirred up.

But my second reading confirmed my first impression - Mr. White was simply
lampooning the Religious Right, which has hijacked the Republican party in
recent years.

From that springboard, Mr. Cooper was able to touch upon such wide ranging
topics as Tojo, marijuana, communism and the threat of "liberals" to life
as he would like it to be.

I'm going to make a guess here and assume Mr. Cooper is a George Bush
supporter. Since Mr. Cooper is able to remember the last 60 years of world
history with such clarity, surely he will recall a short three years ago
when Mr. Bush assured us he was a, "Uniter, not a divider."

Today, as evidenced by Mr. Cooper's intemperate remarks, our nation is more
polarized than it has been since Watergate and the Vietnam era. Considering
that, yes, I would agree with Mr. White that this nation is badly in need
of some love, healing and unity.
