CONGRESS SHOULD END FUNDING FOR DRUG CZAR

Dear Editor,

One of the statutory duties of the federal drug czar is to oppose efforts
to legalize drugs. Imagine a health insurance czar whose duties included
opposing efforts to establish a national health care system. Imagine a tax
czar whose duties included opposing efforts to raise taxes or to not cut
taxes. Imagine a gun czar whose duties included opposing efforts to pass
gun laws.

No matter what side we may take on these or any other issues, establishing
a White House office to promote one side and oppose the other denudes
Congress of its constitutional duty to deliberate.

Congress should cut off funding for the Office of National Drug Control
Policy and stop spending taxpayer dollars on the promotion of any political
agenda.
