MEDICAL MARIJUANA OFFERS ANOTHER OPTION FOR TREATMENT

EDITOR: I am replying to the letter from Dr. Vinoo Cameron that was
published Jan. 15.

The doctor states: "As a physician, like many physicians I have talked to,
I feel that, all in all, this substance may have some very limited use in
conditions such as glaucoma but only under controlled circumstances and
with a doctor's prescription." This is in fact what the medicinal marijuana
movement is asking for from our government. That the right to use this
medicine should be between an individual and his or her physician. The
doctor acknowledges that cannabis does have uses, however limited, and that
is the bottom line.

Our government provides cannabis to seven patients in the federal program.
Yet they insist it has no use for the thousands of people who could benefit
under controlled circumstances or prescription.

The wrong message to children is that a doctor would deny his patients an
alternative that may work better to relieve any ill symptom than the
medicine they are being provided.

It is good to know the doctors are talking about it. They should speak out
and take action so they can practice medicine with more options for our
sick and dying loved ones.
