FINDING DRUGS, LOSING SUSPECTS

To the editor:

Thank you for publishing a scary but very truthful letter by Mike Plylar Of
Kremmling, Colo. ("We need truth about Sept 11," Dec 30).

Since Sept. 11, northern New York along the Canadian border has been
saturated with Border Patrol agents. Their roadblocks and suspicious
activity checks have turned up hundreds of pounds of marijuana for the
local drug task force.

A pullover roadside bust quickly turns into 20 bounty hunters representing
8-10 different police agencies. Something to do with forfeiture laws and
their share of the loot.

Do you think the five people wanted for questioning by the FBI may have
driven around one of those roadside busts when they crossed from Canada?

I'd hate to think someone feels they can get a weapon of mass destruction
in to the U.S. if they put a car of pot in front of them.

Lisbon, N.Y.
