A LOGICAL FALLACY

Charles Turnquist ("A weak argument," letters, Nov. 16) should get some
advice on rhetoric before putting his foot into his mouth again.

His reasoning - to continue cannabis prohibition by comparing the risk
between partaking in that activity to jumping off of buildings - is a
logical fallacy known as a "straw man argument." Of course, the risk to a
cannabis consumer is not even remotely like that of building jumpers.

I encourage all Americans to read what our Senate here in Canada has to say
on the matter. After exhaustive research, they concluded that re-legalizing
cannabis was the way to go. Visit juror.ca to see what the Senators found,
and I encourage you to let Drug Czar John Walters know directly what your
views are after reading this report. He can be reached via e-mail Tim Meehan
