GIVE DRUG TESTS TO THE CEOS

A recent editorial supporting mandatory drug testing for individual
welfare recipients in Michigan seems to forget that poor and
unemployed Americans receive only $1 in aid for every $3 forked over
to corporate welfare recipients.

If The Californian is truly interested in ferreting out waste, fraud
and abuse in our welfare system, it ought to call for mandatory drug
testing of Michigan's corporate CEOs and major stockholders of
companies receiving public subsidies there.

The fact that drug-testing programs are often unreliable and always
very expensive wouldn't surprise many readers. But it might be useful
to remind them that this nation's rich gobble up far more public funds
than do the poor. (They always have.)
