To the Editor of The Columbus Dispatch:
I'm writing about the thoughtful letter from Marvin H. Thomas: "Society
should learn from past prohibitions" (8-27-14).
I'd like to add that for those who think that marijuana prohibition
somehow protects our children and society, I'd like them to view this
short You Tube video featuring former California Superior Court Judge
James P. Gray:

You will see that marijuana prohibition substantially increases all
other crime. Back in the 1960's police solved more than ninety percent
of all homicides. Today they solve just over sixty percent of all
murders. Why? Because of our so-called war on drugs. There are great
financial incentives for police to make drug busts and confiscate the
drug dealers money and property but no financial incentive to solve
rapes or murders.

To the Editor of the Richmond Times-Dispatch:
I'm writing about Rep. Bob Goodlatte's not-so-thoughtful letter:
"Medical marijuana tests are taking place" (8-31-14).
Why hasn't our government told us about the many health benefits of
cannabis? Because they are prevented by law from doing so. The
Controlled Substance Act of 1970
specifically prohibits any government agency from researching or funding
any research into the many health benefits of cannabis or any other
illegal drugs. They can only
research and fund research regarding the potential harm of cannabis.
I strongly suggest that the readers read Clint Werner's outstanding book
"Marijuana Gateway to Health: How Cannabis Protects Us From Cancer and
Alzheimer's Disease."
