Re: "White flag up in war on drugs" by Marc Munroe Dion (12-9-10).
When we re-legalized the drug alcohol in 1933, did we wave a white flag
in front of the Alcohol Cartels? No.
We put them out of business.

To the Editor of The Courier-Post:
I'm writing about Frank Fulbrook's thoughtful letter: "Failed drug
war" (12-11-10).
I agree that the so-called war on drugs is a complete failure in
preventing drug use or in reducing the harms from recreational drugs.
However, the drug war is very successful in creating taxpayer paid jobs
for the so-called drug warriors.
The goal of the drug war is not victory. The DEA is a huge
bureaucracy. And like all bureaucracies its real goal is its
continuation and expansion.
Without drug prohibition we would need far fewer so-called drug
warriors like DEA agents and no jail or prison builders. Without
drug prohibition many DEA agents would be looking for a job or
washing cars for a living.

Re: "Jailed Afghan drug lord was informer on U. S. payroll" (12-12-10).
It is not the jailed drug lord that "...keep the Taliban in business
with a steady stream of money and weapons"
but rather our failed U. S. drug policies of prohibition.
If the United States and the rest of the world adopted the Swiss policy
of selling heroin addicts heroin at very low prices
or even giving it to the addicts who cannot afford it, the Taliban would
soon be bankrupt.

To the editor-
I've just read Danielle Salisbury's article, Pot Charge Against Vietnam
Veteran Illustrates Confusion With Medical Marijuana Law (Sun, Dec 12).
Really? A 61 year old veteran, with PTSD and cancer is prosecuted for
his health care practices and the criminal justice system deems him a
worthy target for prosecution.
I'm sorry but that's disgusting on many levels. What is particularly
disturbing is that Gary Muntz is being persecuted under a set of
policies totally fraudulent. The prohibition against cannabis
(marijuana) is founded completely upon lies. The fruit of this
prohibition gives us cases like Muntz'. There is no resemblance to
justice here. And not a lick of common sense present.
There is however the sad reality of a government hellbent upon
asserting its authority. The government is lying about cannabis and it
is time for the fraud to end.

I have some simple advice to those who oppose the use of marijuana,
medical or otherwise.
Don't buy it, don't grow it and don't used it. Period.
